The Greater Sacramento region is gaining national attention as a rising hub in the U.S. semiconductor industry.

This morning, the Associated Press published a feature story highlighting how our region is attracting a growing cluster of memory technology and chip manufacturing leaders thanks to our skilled talent pipeline, strategic location and strong public-private partnerships. The article underscores what we’ve been working toward: a regional economy built for the future of advanced manufacturing and innovation.

The full story can be viewed here. The AP’s national syndication means this story is already being picked up by major outlets across the country, including U.S. News, ABC News, Fortune, The Washington Post, Inc. and more.

Below are some key excerpts:

“In few places is the growth of the U.S. semiconductor industry clearer than in the Greater Sacramento region… Semiconductor giants clustered in cities just outside Silicon Valley — Intel, AMD, Bosch, Samsung and Micron — are building on a tech foothold Intel first established when it opened its Sacramento-County campus in 1984.”

“Northern California’s wealth of tech knowledge and established roots in the semiconductor industry are also attractive traits that have brought investment to the Sacramento region…”

“Lane Bess, board chair of Blaize, pointed to Munagala [Co-founder and CEO of Blaize] — who worked at Intel — as an example of the talent the Sacramento region can provide to tech companies. The area is primed to be a main corridor for the semiconductor industry because a lot of skilled workers are looking to develop their own companies, Bess said.”

This national recognition is a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to elevate the region’s profile and drive investment, high-wage job creation and sustainable growth.
